Dutch Bardiglio Louis XVI fireplace.
This fireplace mantel is a fine example of a common 18th-century Dutch design: a straight Bardiglio marble mantel enriched with elegant Louis XVI ornamentation. The frieze is divided into five recessed panels, with a finely carved rosette at the center. The panels above the jambs are adorned with floral rosettes featuring eight petals, while the recessed sections are fluted with two grooves each.
These recessed details add visual depth and interest to what is otherwise a relatively restrained and architectural design, creating a harmonious unity between the frieze and the jambs. In keeping with the Louis XVI style, the plinths and shelf are executed with clean, straight lines.
Crafted from Bardiglio marble, prized for its refined grey tones and subtle white veining, this Dutch bardiglio marble Louis XVI fireplace offers timeless elegance and understated sophistication. It would be particularly well suited to a period townhouse, canal house, or other classically inspired interior.
