HISTORY

Willem Schermerhorn Antique Fireplace and Mantelpieces van founded in 1980 in the city center of Haarlem.
Here Willem sectioned of a part of his house to present his latest find to his clients.
He soon ran out of space and acquired a small corner store in the historical “Vijfhoek” in Haarlem.
During the following years he was able to string together almost an entire street block, connecting all the old workshops to one large showroom spreading over 6,500 square feet and 5 connecting buildings.

During his career Willem always strived to sell and build mantels with respect for materials and traditional building methods. At the base of his philosophy lies the fireplace itself, the type of material, age and style. Integration into its new situation meant that the antique fireplace not only needs to look original and appealing but also has to be safe and function in all types of situations and weather types.

Early 2006 Maarten Schermerhorn joined the company and has since then learned all the possible ins and outs of the business, he now runs the company while Willem has taken on an advisory role.
